“2021年初的时候，我们开始为《追幸福的人》这部电影做配乐。先是根据脑海中对影片观后的第一印象做了两个主题动机：关于整体的气氛和叙事的节奏，之后把这两个动机发展成了两个完整的作品。同时整个片子的情绪基调让我们想到了惘闻很早前的一个作品《My Crime》，于是我们也重新编排了这首作品。之后所有影片中的配乐片段都是从上面三个作品中抽取的部分再变奏而成的。

初夏时节，导演祝捷来到大连，他给我们讲述了很多拍摄这部电影过程中的遭遇以及很多影片背后的故事。然后又鬼使神差地反客为主带我们去吃了一家正宗的朝鲜家庭料理，拿着没喝完的米酒一起去看演出……那绝对是神奇又美妙的几天，特别是对于那个还处在动辄封控的特殊时期。

导演祝捷在配乐上给了我们绝对的自由度，他相信自然而然的一种状态，这或许跟他也是纪录片导演有关系。同时他对这部片子的配乐需求是非常节制的，整个配乐推进得很顺畅。之后祝捷带着女儿第二次来到大连惘闻工作室，我们在一起大概用了三天就最终定稿了整个配乐。

时间一晃又过去了四年，当《追幸福的人》终于要在2025年三月上映，我再次回放整个配乐，很多片中的场景和那个夏天因为这部电影而发生的事情一下子都涌上了心头。”

"In early 2021, we began scoring Clap Your Hands. We first developed two thematic motifs based on our initial impressions of the film’s atmosphere and narrative rhythm, later expanding them into full compositions. The emotional core also reminded us of WangWen’s early work My Crime, which we rearranged. All subsequent score fragments were variations drawn from these three pieces.

In early summer, Director Zhu Jie came to Dalian. He shared stories from filming and, strangely, ended up taking the host role—taking us to an authentic Korean family restaurant, then to a live show with unfinished rice wine. Those were magical days, especially amid pandemic lockdowns.

Zhu Jie gave us complete creative freedom, trusting organic collaboration—perhaps due to his documentary background. His restraint in scoring needs kept the process smooth. Later, when he returned to our studio with his daughter, we finalized the entire score in three days.

Four years have passed in the blink of an eye. As Clap Your Hands prepares for its March 2025 release, revisiting the score floods me with memories of the film’s scenes and that summer’s adventures."

写剧本和剪辑的时候，我喜欢找一些跟想象中未来电影呈现的情绪相近的音乐，作为工作的背景音乐。做《追幸福的人》的那段时间，我听得最多的就是惘闻。

但惘闻的作品序列中很少见电影配乐，而且听说他们对合作的选择十分严谨，所以当我通过制片人联系到他们，并把粗剪的小样发过去之后，等待的那段时间，心里充满忐忑。大概一周后，我得到消息，他们很喜欢这个电影，愿意尝试合作。那一刻的喜悦至今难忘。

相对于专为电影而作的配乐，惘闻的音乐是独立的作品。这意味着它们不依附于画面存在，音乐本身就完成了画面、造型、音效和叙事。平时听惘闻的时候，这些丰富的故事化元素正是我最喜欢的部分。但作为电影配乐，这些元素再加上电影本身的画面和音效，我担心会让情绪太满。可是要让我尊敬的音乐人自废部分武功，我该如何跟他们说呢？没想到的是，第一次与他们见面，老谢自己也提出了同样的担心。因此他们会做减法，让音乐与电影更为一体。

后面的配乐过程，愉悦——远超预期的愉悦。我就窝在惘闻的排练室里，与他们一起看着电影片段，现场聊动机，现场配乐，现场加入各种想法，然后随时调整配器方案。印象中最难的一段是林树林死后巧巧独自生活的那个蒙太奇片段。当时尝试了很多方法，都觉得不对。大家一筹莫展，排练室里前所未有的安静。突然，传来了几声口哨，我身上的汗毛竟唰地竖了起来。所有人都看向黄凯，别停，继续吹下去，这段咱们不要别的乐器了，只有口哨就好……

如今四年过去，电影终于要上映了，惘闻也专门发行了这张电影原声黑胶唱片。对我而言，黑胶的纹理中，除了音符，还刻入了所有点滴的回忆，以及这些回忆组成的那一段大连初冬有风的日子。

"When writing scripts and editing, I like to find music that aligns with the emotional tone I envision for the future film as my background music. While working on Clap Your Hands, I listened to WangWen's music the most.

However, WangWen rarely composes film scores, and I heard they are highly selective about collaborations. When I contacted them through the producer and sent a rough cut, I felt anxious during the wait. About a week later, I received word that they loved the film and were willing to collaborate. That moment of joy remains unforgettable.

Unlike scores created specifically for films, WangWen's music exists as standalone works. Their compositions don’t rely on visuals—they inherently complete the imagery, aesthetics, sound effects, and storytelling. These richly narrative elements are what I adore about their music. But as a film score, combining these layers with the movie’s own visuals and soundscapes risked emotional overload. How could I ask musicians I respect to "hold back"? Surprisingly, during our first meeting, Xie Yugang raised the same concern. They decided to simplify, ensuring the music harmonized with the film.

The scoring process that followed was joyous—far beyond expectations. I stayed in WangWen’s rehearsal studio, discussing motifs, improvising scores, experimenting with ideas, and adjusting instrumentation arrangements on the spot. The most challenging part was the montage sequence of Qiaoqiao living alone after Lin Shulin’s death. After countless failed attempts, the studio fell into an unprecedented silence. Suddenly, a whistling melody broke through—my hairs stood on end. Everyone turned to Huang Kai: "Don’t stop. Keep whistling. Let’s ditch other instruments—just the whistle."

Four years later, the film is finally released, and WangWen has specially pressed the soundtrack on vinyl. To me, the grooves of this record hold not just notes, but every memory from those early winter days in Dalian, woven together by the wind."
